Formula Sailcraft manufacture high quality, light weight moulded fibreglass/foam sandwich 125s for top level racing.

Formula Sailcraft's 125s are from the moulds of 'Mk2 3168' which won the last 125 Nationals at Henly in SA sailed by Nick Major and Bianca Scott. We call our current 125 model the 'FS-125-Mk2'

Formula Sailcraft's FS-125-Mk2s have a very flat rocker line and moderate bottom panel round which produces a hull that gives good all-round performance.

A lot of time and care was spent fairing the original plug for the mould ensuring no humps or hollows. The hull is therefore lower drag and breaks loose onto the plane early. The fairness of the hull bottom also contributes to the FS-125-Mk2s ultimate speed in windy weather.

The 10th FS-125-Mk2 is currently under constuction (as at 1/8/2010)

Fully moulded hull/decks:

125s for Racing

Our Race spec 125s are built using Vinylester Resin and finished in tough FGI Aquaguard gelcoat. Hull and deck shells are manufactured in our modern boatbuilding facility using advanced vacuum bagging technology. Construction is supervised by Jim Scott, current active 125 sailor and three times 125 National Champion.

The 125 has a very low minimum weight of 50kg which requires care and experience to achieve. Formula Sailcraft moulded 125s are carefully constructed to be light, stiff and fast whilst also incorporating adequate strength in the important areas to achieve a long lasting, low maintenance boat.

Race spec FS-125-Mk2 bare hull/deck assembly in white or light grey hull, white or light grey deck, darker grey floor non-slip including bailer recesses and scupper cut-outs, ready for fit-out $6,930 incl. GST

Other colours are available at additional cost.

Strange Magic (Jim and Mossimo) finished first overall in their division. Strange Magic has a high quality Allen Brothers UK fitout which includes Allen's Dynamic Ball Bearing Blocks and ratchet blocks as well as spin pole ends & mast ring, stay adjusters, gooseneck, mast step, hatches, tiller extension, rudder gudgeons, cam cleats and Delta bailer.

125s for Sail Training

Formula Sailcraft are now building 125s specifically for sail training. The hulls are made from the same moulds as the FS-125-Mk2s but are laid up using lower tech materials materials so that they will be cheaper to purchase and will be much more robust than a racing 125. There is a trade off however as the Trainer spec 125 weighs around 17kg more than a minimum weight race boat (similar weight to the training Pacer dinghies used by many clubs and sailing schools) Despite the heavier weight of the hull, the trainer spec boat has the race pedigree of the 125-Mk2 hull and so will still be quite competitive if used in club racing or even State championships.

The Training Spec 125s can be supplied with basic Allen UK fit out, ready to sail including mainsail, jib and trapeze for $9,900 including GST

There is an optional spinnaker kit and also either aluminium or timber beach trolleys if required at additional cost.

Moulded carbon/balsa centreboards

We now make carbon fibre 125 centreboards with a balsa core, laminated in tough vinylester resin and finished in hard wearing polyester gelcoat. These carbon/balsa boards are moulded to the same NACA shape as the hand shaped board in Mk2. The moulded boards weigh in at 2.7kg and are stiff and strong.

Price for 2.7kg moulded carbon/balsa centreboard is $770 incl GST

Price for 3.4kg moulded fibreglass/balsa centreboard $550 incl GST

Rudder boxes and rudder blades

Swinging rudders

We make two arrangements for swing rudders, both have the same deep eliptical blades shaped to NACA section available in either cedar/glass or cedar/carbon.

The deep eliptical NACA rudder has low drag, low stall characteristics maintaining good grip in the water on fast shy reaches.

We can supply a rudder blade fitted to an assembled Vic Assoc. alloy rudder box as used on Kraken Up 3172 (the blade is taller at the top to fit the box) or...

We can supply a moulded carbon rudder box with carbon tube tiller. This is the lighter option weighing about 500g less but costing more.

Both rudder boxes are proven designs, have integral gudgeons and are supplied fully fitted including 5/16" gudgeon pin, rudder pivot bolt with wing nuts and lock down pin (tiller extension not included)

Price for swing rudder blade in cedar/glass $473.00 incl GST

Price for swing rudder blade in cedar/carbon $550.00 incl GST

Price for assembled Vic 125 Assoc alloy rudder box $265.00 incl GST

Price for moulded carbon swing rudder box $660.00 incl GST

Dagger rudders

We now also build a dagger rudder set up which is a moulded carbon high aspect blade in a moulded carbon rudder box with carbon tube tiller, includes 5/16" gudgeon pin.

Price for the dagger rudder blade is $550.00 incl. GST

Price for the dagger rudder box is $660.00 incl. GST

Right, moulded carbon dagger rudder box with deep high aspect balsa/carbon blade (built very strong with lots of carbon) This set up is about the same weight as a carbon swing blade and box and is generally preferred by those who have to contest a shore break to go sailing.
